The London Underground is the oldest subway in the world. It has been travelling through the ages, but at the same time, because of its age,it has a severe noise problem.
Green noise manager is a green, sustainable, innovative acoustic fabric made from bark fabric. It has a better sound absorption coefficient than traditional acoustic cotton and is biodegradable and sustainable. It solves the problem of lack of fashion and market potential of the raw material barkcloth. It stimulates the craft industry’s economy and inheritance of the barkcloth’s origin. At the same time,it is improving the sound absorption coefficient through the sustainable process.
Through Green noise manager fabric design, subway application design, product design and UI deisgn, this project aims to improve the noise problem inside the Central line train carriages, which are considered the noisiest by the subway staff and passengers. It also improves the visual effect of the carriages.
The project also makes more efforts in the aspect of sustainability after use.It planned the process of REPAIR, RECYCLE and REUSE.In order to reduce costs,it uses posters to recruit volunteers in the production and repair process and reuses and sells them as earrings in the reuse process.
We hope that the project will improve the subway noise problem and the environment to improve people’s health and well-being while making more people think about how to solve the negative impacts of technological development and how to live more sustainably.
