This year, I experienced the unexpected death of my grandfather. Everyone in my family is in great grief, and it is also difficult for me to accept this sudden tragic news. I didn’t know what I could do, so I picked up a sketch pen and started drawing Grandpa. Then, the creation of “My Treasure Grandpa” book had begun.
I illustrated moments of myself with Grandpa, memories of him with our family, and the advice and care he had given us. By recalling past experiences, I would like to keep our family’s and my memory of Grandpa alive and showcase my extraordinary and admired grandpa to others. I allocated these pictures in an accordion album made by myself, which conceptually represents a memory card. This project explored the combination of watercolor and digital drawing, aiming to display more warmth of hand-drawn elements.
Telling a meaningful and heartwarming story through my work is the essence of my creative intention. I hope that my family and people feel a sense of healing when they see my artwork.
