My project title is Wealth and Poverty, it is basically expressing the rich don’t care and cannot see the poor’s situation. The inspiration is from a performance art practice – Instant Possession and my experiences which I have studied in international school and local school, it meant I have met friends with two different economic levels, I sympathised with my local school friends. I did many research on two sides then reformulated the concept. For my garment, I would like to make the garment more interesting and not that boring therefore I decided to develop in stupidity direction. I compare the flowers in the greenhouse to the stupidity of the rich who are overprotected and ignorant of the outside world because they can only deal with people of the same class as themselves on a daily basis, ignoring the situation of the poor. I also think that their stupidity is simple in stead of just foolish so I think they are like babies, which is pure and ignorant. My final garment was relevant to the flowers of greenhouse, bib of baby and curve line, which I think it have the sense of clumsiness. The colour of my garment is white because their ignorance are like a blank sheet.
These are my testing and development images. I made the hip-pad by using metal boning and tape. The reason why I made hip-pad because of Marie Antoinette wore hip-pad rather than other types of bustle, she was the person who influenced the fashion trend in 1789. There were some textile sample for making the fabric more textured.
