Where To Go: Public Toilets as A Tool for Mindfulness. After eight weeks of investigation, research and testing I have designed and made two scale models of site-specific public toilets for Pen Ponds, Richmond Park.
The first model depicts the site in which the toilet is situated within and the exterior shell of the toilets, which takes a biomorphic structure, inspired by the silhouettes of the trees around the pond. It was important that the intervention was cohesive in form with its environment so that it did not obscure the surrounding landscape.
The second model is larger and focuses on the interior. Whilst maintaining an organic form the interior takes simplistic, exposed sculptural appearance. Intended to be built in concrete with a glass roof, with a focus on acoustics and light were important in building a new narrative for the experience of visiting the ponds on a full bladder.
A toilet that provides the experience of contentment.
