Sustainability has become a key pillar of today’s fashion industry agenda, with multistakeholder partnerships, innovative practices, sustainability reporting, and bold voluntary commitments sprawling up in recent years. As efforts slowly move towards a transformative tipping point, we find ourselves in the decade of delivery with a scale and speed of change that is still insufficient. Most companies have so far failed to reduce their negative environmental and social impact, and the sector is still struggling to move from making incremental changes to achieving systematic transformation.
This research aims to support the fashion industry’s sustainability efforts and provide a common roadmap for decision-makers hoping to achieve systematic transformation. It relies on an ambitious collaboration with ten sustainability experts from leading non-profit organisations and fashion companies to explore their sustainability priorities and analyse the gap between the current state of sustainability and a net-positive future, in order to identify the challenges that are hindering the industry’s progress.
