This project is called “post-recovery space” and the main concept of this project is emphasize on the well-being of the patients, which I will design a relaxing and comfortable environment for the patient who need the further recovery. The well-being of the patients will affect the speed of recovery since the stress, anxiety and negative emotion are a great obstacle for the patients to recover. However, it is often overlooked by the acute hospitals and the mental condition of patients will stay in the stressful state during the whole process of hospitalization.
During the research, I found that there are a group of patients who don’t need the acute medical care but still need a proper space to get fully recovery and are often stuck in the hospital waiting to be discharged. Moreover, there are some problems with recovering in hospital, such as getting infection of other virus. Hence, I propose to design a post-recovery space only for the patients who just need to fully recover.
According to the result of research, the concept of the design will solve three factors bringing the negative emotion, which are hospital environment, isolation and feeling of uncontrollable. I have combined natural elements and used the home-like material in the private area to make the environment feel less stressful. I also design a seating space to encourage the patient to interact with others and various activities to give them opportunities to communicate with others and help them to regain the sense of self-value. Moreover, I also consider the colour of different spaces, sunlight, wayfinding and so on. The well-being of nurse will affect their quality of service for patients; therefore, I have created a space for the nurses to get proper rest.
This project is dedicated to improve their well-being during the recovery and create a pleasant environment for them.
