I mainly make cartoons. My work draws for my own personal experiences and more recently, my class identity. I’ve been attempting to use cartoons and animation to explore themes of childhood and social experience though a lot of my third year work, most notably, ‘MATCH DAY @ The Working Men’s Social Club’, A short POV animation, recounting my experience of the club as a child in the early 2000’s.
My final film, ‘THAT TIME I LIED ABOUT BEING A PESCETARIAN’ is a semi-factual narrative exploring a scenario that came about when I first joined university that l touches on the idea of performance, inauthenticity and the all-consuming guilt that inevitably occurs when you try to be something you aren’t in order to uphold a false identity.
I enjoy the developmental stages of cartooning, these being: thumbnailing and sketching, iterative character design and animating. I have included some pages from a project, ‘CAPITAL INVESTMENTS’, that showcase how I enjoy exploring a concept though illustration, in this case, a series of images juxtaposed with text that explore the concept of creative investment.
