Talking to a stranger is not as awkward as we often think it is; in fact, it can enhance our happiness and boost our confidence. More often than not, it is ourselves who magnify social fear.
After I came to the UK, I communicated with different strangers by chance several times. Regardless of the length of the interaction, I always gained something, such as a philosophy of life, a good mood, self-confidence…etc.Those good interactions with strangers build my confidence to start this project. Each interaction brings me new energy and ideas, helping me to see things from a fresh perspective.
I believe breaking down social barriers, showing kindness to strangers and embracing the diversity of the human experience can help people enhance each other’s life.
In this project, I embark on a personal endeavor by placing my own small sign in various corners of London. I engage with strangers who happen to pass by, striking up conversations and capturing their essence through portraiture. Each portrait becomes a gateway to exchanging stories, as we connect on a deeper level and share a piece of our lives. Through this unique and intimate interaction, I aim to create meaningful connections and celebrate the diverse narratives that unfold in the bustling streets of London.
Hi! I’m Pei, an illustration student from Taiwan. One of my favorite quotes from Auguste Rodin is, “The so-called master is such a person: they use their own eyes to see what others have seen, finding beauty in the ordinary.” I believe that the greatest stories are often hidden in our everyday lives, just waiting to be discovered.
