My work is about pushing the boundries of what is painting and what is sculpture. Made from left over painting frames, I wanted to transport painting to of a more 3D form. Aiming for lightness, simplicity and silence. Getting inspiration from artists such as Phyllida Barlow, Craig Kauffman, and in the writings and artworks of David Bachelor for inspiration.
While my practice as an artist started with filmmaking and performance, over the past year I have experimented with and become focused on the processes and boundaries between painting, sculpture, and developed skills in making 3D structures. Exploring the painterly processes and developing my 3D skills has given me new creative possibilities, allowing me to put together what I can imagine, and to create the forms I want to make. By using simple graphic shapes and linear forms, I want to encourage the eye to move into and through the structures.
With the two pieces not intending to be representative, as for me making is thinking.
While I was in the process of making I took inspiration from simple things such as a construction site, seeing how they unintentionally create different pattens and forms.
I played around with many different possibilities, some becoming more of a sculpture in presentation other becoming more 3D paintings.
