All we ever talk about is the weather…
Within my work I have explored what it means to be an English Londoner, who is at the same time British and European. I’ve looked into subtle nuances that often go unnoticed and stereotypes that are reinforced by elements of truth. I started my project by observing the English; questioning who they are in a material sense. What objects do they use? Where do they hang out and what artefacts is left behind when their gone? I then diverted my research towards the lived experience of the English looking into specific elements of conversation and social interactions. The idea of creating a space for communication came from research into the social and political environment of the UK. There are a many issues that we face as a country and with many different views, conversing and understanding people can be strenuous and difficult. So I wanted to create a space that fostered conversations; these chats don’t have to be ground breaking nor do they have to solve the worlds problems, but I just wanted to bring people together.
