Minglun Cai

This is a four-panel comic story book about humor and light-heartedness, and it is a collection of some nonsensical and laugh-out-loud funny stories. I want to give my audience a sense of fun and relaxation while reading this book.

At the very beginning, I just aimed to create a book about embarrassing moments; however, after doing specific research, I found that the scope of humor could cover diverse aspects that are not just embarrassing things. So, I have broadened my topic and planned to make a book about stories that belong to different elements of humor.

I drew four chapters – Amusement Park, Haunted House, Everyday Life and Animal Theme – to complete this comic book. The amusement park section shows funny stories of the main characters in different parts of the park. The Haunted House section collects funny stories that take place in a scary and weird environment, such as scenes in a cemetery and a haunted house. Apart from making humans as the main characters and considering that there are also many animals that behave in interesting ways, I took inspiration from funny incidents that happen between people and different animals and created some animal-themed stories. Back to our life, there are already countless moments adding much flavor to it. So, inspired by them, I collected and recorded these funny things to make a main part of my book.

Moreover, it’s a 100% handmade book, from drawing to binding. Here I used watercolor to illustrate more than 20 short stories and there are nearly 100 frames in this book, testing different paper types and finally making the physical book in the workshop. It’s a huge project, and I think all my efforts paid back when witnessing it being produced. It would be a great pleasure for me if my book could make you laugh, feel delighted and relaxed.
