The ancient Greeks believed, “The moon is a mirror.” This project offers a different perspective on the moon to interpret the symbolism of “mirror” and “reflection.”
The author, starting from the purpose of human use of tidal forces, uses visual storytelling to present the moon and the connection between humanity and a hydroelectric station (a human achievement). The story of this project takes place in a parallel timeline against the backdrop of the “Space Race” of the last century.
In a coastal city striving for sustainable development, a project called “ARTEMES” is launched to harness clean energy – tidal power. However, during the course of the project, it faces challenges from a tsunami attack and mysterious radio waves, leading to doubts and eventual suspension. Investigator Luo is assigned the task by superiors to conduct on-site investigations and uncover the reasons behind these events. During a full moon in 1966, the moon once again sends signals to the Earth, seemingly in response to Luo. This prompts Luo to embark on a dialogue with the moon.
Audiences can view this project as a visualized “bright science fiction.” The central piece of this project is a publication that presents the dialogue between Luo and the moon. Additionally, various items and documents are visualized according to the story’s timeline and key plot points. Ultimately, what the moon responds with at the end of the story is, in fact, a reflection of humanity’s own actions. While the moon itself lacks emotions, it takes on significance when humans are driven by a desire to explore the unknown and the cosmos.
