Deer Table
A sculptural table that seeks to re-explore depictions of animals in our art and objects. How can the archetypal and universal forms that exist within the collective imagination be drawn upon to create an emotive and dramatic object? Like for example, a deer positioned in an ambiguous state of struggle posed and abstracted so that it may be used as a table. Such a sombre object quite naturally gives rise to an opportunity play with and under cut it’s tone in such a way that brings levity and a sense of humour to the object. Firstly through it’s use as a table and secondly through it’s potential for colouration. such alterations aim to bring a juxtaposition to the object that both highlights and soften the objects melancholy.
The Deer is constructed with three CNC cut 3mm sheet metal nets that are cut in such a way that when creased along their seems at specific angles and welded at their natural meeting points the deer/table may be assembled. The welded parts may then be coloured in any manor of graphic/colour desired. Additionally, the scaling of the table can be changed to alter the final size of the deer.
