Louis Heatlie has been developing methodology for integrating systems thinking and product design, without the need for quantification. Recognising the failure of life cycle analysis and efficiency drives to create meaningful sustainable change, and their inability to engage with the design process, Louis has adapted techniques for complex problem solving typically found in public health research. Made accessible through a book, and series of workshops, this adapted technique can integrate sustainability with other complex areas of design, such as manufacturing supply chains, ergonomics and aesthetics.
This project focuses on utilising causal loop diagrams to allow product designers to create objects that affect systems, rather than products of the systems they’re created in.
