Initially I was researching unspoken uniforms and the impacts of uniforms on our society but as research developed I came across Alison O’Niell, who has a lifelong career as a shepherdess. Astonished by her commitment to her career despite its many challenges, I wanted my garment to celebrate her journey through her career and create a ‘uniform’ that encaptures the struggles and rewards her career has brought her. I believe it is important in a world where we are swarmed with micro trends, fast fashion and endless influencers and targeted marketing that we discover oneself in the clothes wear and try our best to celebrate what it is that we do in our clothes rather than hiding behind someone else’s.
Celebrating a lifelong career whereby the influence of others and unspoken uniforms in society has no influence. Using only found material, this projects highlights what we can achieve with what we have and the absurd nature of over-comsumption in fashion.
