This work is on the subject of the end of the world. I was interested in how people thought that the world would end, and more importantly why do we care so much. Most religions and many cults have an understanding of how the world ends in their belief. Scientists study the heat death of the universe and its many possible outcomes for entire careers and fiction is often full of world ending threats, but is it a part of human nature to want to tell these stories and grasp for control in these situations. I was interested in creating a body of work around how different people thought the world would end, and by the end of my research I focused on how this information is often presented to the public, and why governments and companies feel the need to convey this information in certain ways.
I have made a mixed media film that displays a world much like the 1970’s only the world is ending in every conceivable way, seen through your tv on every channel. I intend to demonstrate how ridiculous it is that we try to regulate and control the apocalypse, through guidelines and informational campaigns with catchy acronyms, by showing a world where this is more obvious.
