‘Wrapped’ celebrates pleating, which is often an overlooked and undervalued process. I wanted to explore pleating and drapery as a process which lent itself to wrapping. This led to wrapping offcuts of wood, ‘informing’ a new method of upholstery.

In this case, kitchen offcuts are used to construct the furniture structures. The wrapping and pleating lifts the basic structures into furniture of value and celebrates pleats.

‘Wrapped’ includes a stool, bench and a chair. Once the structures are wrapped, they are then cinched in using webbing to enhance the pleating and hold the upholstered piece together.

Using wrapping and pleating to form a new method of upholstery. ‘Wrapped’ challenges the traditional way in which we upholster furniture, whilst analysing the value of an object.
