In today’s world, we live a lot of our lives online. We live in a society of flawed promise, being influenced by false advertisement, inauthenticity, beauty standards and influencer’s supposed to be our biggest inspiration. I believe we lose who we truly are and feel we have to fit in or match up to others around us.
I wanted to create a project filled with love, passion and truth and give people without a large presence or voice an opportunity to tell their fascinating stories.
I started by thinking of the uniqueness in people and where we feel truly different to others. This led me to keepsakes, any memories, letters, diary pages, tickets, photos and postcards are all unique to a person. They hold a special meaning. I wanted to give those anonymous people a chance to share a little piece of their lives that is special to them.
I wanted to create a brand built to inspire people to be true to themselves and the beauty in the uniqueness of people. I built a commercial magazine and book version with original assets and a product line. This included two styles of journals and a journal starter kit to make the blank pages less intimidating. As part of the brand, I launched a website, social media and planned an art installation. Portrait of you was about bringing the uniqueness back to us and remembering what makes us individual.
Ordinary people aren’t boring, this was my opportunity to prove that.
“In a world of expectations, how can we admire our uniqueness?” Portrait of you encourages you to be true to you.
