SS23 Threads from Home
Mehdi draws its inspiration from a tapestry of family and heritage, fusing culture and appreciation of centuries of craftsmanship. Inspired by my family living in the British countryside embracing a semi self-sufficient lifestyle. They cultivated their own gardens, harvested homegrown food, made their own clothes and upholstered their furniture. Guided by my grandmother, a botanical artist and grandfather, a builder, they created a self-contained world of their own. My own mainly British and Iraqi heritage plays a significant role embracing both cultural influences, resulting in knitwear designs that pay homage to SWANA artists, clothing, architectural beauty, and music. The materials in this collection hold immense importance as they embody a return to its origins, using British made oilskin and waxed cotton, naturally dyed t-shirting, canvas and British spun lambswool.
