Pick ‘n’ Mix: Balancing Race In ‘My Britain’
This text piece printed onto the Flag of England explores my complicated relationship to Britishness, as I try to balance both of my cultures as a young girl of mixed British and Nigerian heritage living in London. The symbolism of the English Flag does not represent my British identity, it shows that I am excluded and still viewed as black. This is why when viewed through the lens of the English Flag and what it has come to symbolise in this country, I cannot and struggle to celebrate and embrace my British identity.
