For my final piece for my Final Major Project, I have created a door and its accompanying frame. As my project is based on awkwardness, I tasked myself with reimagining the classic door and attempting to make the most awkward one – both in function and the way in which people interact with it. As a result, I have created a freestanding door frame padded in wadding, and a “door” made from various shapes of foam blocks that must be stacked in a specific order to create the barrier of a standard door. I came to this conclusion after I discovered that an awkward situation can only be awkward if it is not laughed off or mutually experienced – therefore, by creating something that in nature is awkward, the experience cannot be.
An Awkward Door – an upholstered door inspired by Japanese Tangrams, meaning that the door is only able to function when assembled in a specific order, 0r does it ever really function?
