The existing building The House Mill is the eighteenth century tidal mill, it has been vacant for a long time. The timber structure suffered damage from the effects of the tidal river. Around the building are several schools and studios related to performances. I focus on how the local industries’ problems can be improved through the reuse of The House Mill to form a circular economy.
The project is based on solving the problem of recycling waste coffee grounds in surrounding coffee shops and restaurants. The mycelium products produced by cultivating mycelium from used coffee grounds are used in the local film industry (for performance sets), and also be used as a construction material for short-term events. The concept of renewable energy production is include in the proposal, with hydroelectric power (tidal energy) supporting part of the building’s electricity consumption. The removed existing materials are reused to reduce the usage of new materials.
Projects can convene surrounding residents for experiences, bringing people together to Feel the positive impact of renewable energy and biomaterials on life. Become a new choice for community entertainment. At the same time, the flexible lecture room for students and tourists to learn relevant knowledge, which contributes to education.
